Wood is recruiting for a Lead Subsea Engineer to join the team on a contract basis to support projects within our Technical Consulting Division. This role will be based in our Staines office with some hybrid working available, on a staff or contract basis.

The Role

As a Lead Subsea Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, testing, and implementation of subsea systems for offshore oil and gas projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to lead a team of engineers in delivering high-quality subsea solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Typical Responsibilities

Project Leadership:

  • Lead and manage a team of multi-discipline engineers throughout the entire project life cycle
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including FA, process, materials, control system engineers, to ensure seamless integration of subsea system into overall project system designs

Technical Design and Development:
  • Develop conceptual, FEED and detailed engineering designs for subsea systems and collaborate in the design of subsea architecture
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements
  • Perform engineering calculations and simulations to validate the performance and reliability of subsea systems

Testing and Qualification:

  • Plan and execute testing programs to validate the functionality and reliability of subsea hardware components and systems
  • Work closely with testing and quality assurance teams to identify and address any issues during the testing phase


Risk Management:

  • Identify potential risks associated with the subsea system design and develop mitigation strategies
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement measures to ensure the safety and reliability of subsea systems


Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and reports
  • Communicate project progress, challenges, and solutions to stakeholders through regular status updates and technical presentations


Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and clients to ensure alignment on project goals and requirements
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to address technical inquiries and provide updates on subsea hardware engineering activities


QUALIFICATIONS

Expected:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Considerable previous relevant experience in Subsea Engineering with an emphasis on overall subsea architecture including the delivery of subsea development projects
  • Experience in early design phases, developing subsea architecture for prospective developments, experience in design and installation of key equipment such as flowlines rigid and flexible, manifold, jumpers etc is desirable
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) with the ability to interface directly with clients and internal departments
  • Excellent MS Office Suite knowledge
  • Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in the UK upstream oil and gas industry.
  • Chartered Engineer status desirable
  • Proven ability to communicate and present at all levels
  • Experience in ownership and delivery of workscopes; developing manhour budget estimates; and leading senior / project engineers
  • Experience with advanced engineering solutions and use of new technologies
  • Chartered engineer status is desirable
