JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is currently recruiting a Project Controls Manager to join our UK Shell EPC Contract, focusing on our large project's portfolio. The Shell EPC contract is well established, with a broad and exciting portfolio of long-term scopes, secured across multiple onshore and offshore assets. This is an exciting and high-profile position on the contract, supporting the timely and safe delivery of established projects such as Jackdaw, currently one of the largest and high-profile projects in the North Sea currently and a future major contributor to the UK Energy Security of Supply. As well as new project scopes for Shell's Onshore Sites at St Fergus Aberdeenshire, Mossmorran and Braefoot Bay in Fife.

As a project controls manager, you will be focal point for the cost, planning, estimating and risk assessment support for selected projects within the Projects Portfolio. You will oversee the running of all required project controls systems, tools, and interfaces to allow successful management and reporting of the project costs, schedule and risks on projects and specific assignments.

Reporting to the Snr Project Controls Manager for the Shell EPC Contract. The role interfaces with several key stakeholders across the project and wider business.

The position will be the primary focal point for the Project Manager, Client or Project Team for all matters relating to project costs, schedules, and risk; and resources requirements.

Develops and implements the project control execution plan for projects of moderate size and complexity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements the project control execution plan
  • Responsible for ensuring all project specific control tools and systems are set up and functioning adequately
  • Manage the workload, performance, and development of the project controls team. Provides constructive feedback and coaching
  • Responsible for ensuring project control staff are competent to carry out assigned work
  • Reviews contractual obligations and ensures that project control activities are performed in accordance with the contractual agreements and the Client's requirements
  • Provide the Project Management with accurate monthly cost and progress reports incorporating early warning, forecast completions, together with the critical path and trend analyses
  • Monitor overall project / assignment progress status, achievement and non-achievement of major milestones and analyse and forecast performance in relation to plan
  • Identifies and establishes the communications interfaces essential for the delivery of cost, planning, scheduling and risk deliverables and services
  • Report project status and KPI to management
  • Manage the creation and implementation of the cost and work breakdown structures.
  • Manage and oversee the project work approval process in terms of accurate cost code allocation and initial budget set-up and approvals
  • Timely control and forecasting of budgets and ensure that the impact of all change requests are properly assessed and included in the budget and schedules if applicable
  • Accountable for delivery and ongoing maintenance of the projects fully resourced, logic linked Gantt Charts within preferred planning software to the agreed project and program requirements
  • Accountable for providing analysis of current and future resource needs for the project and program to the Project Manager
  • Promote the project change management system and facilitate assurance activities to ensure the process is adhered to
  • Serve as Chair for ongoing internal team and client team Project Controls meetings (Cost, Schedule, and Progress)
  • Oversee the preparation of proposal schedules and CTR packs
  • Lead cost and schedule risk analysis workshops / sessions both internally and with clients
  • Ensure risk is managed and monitored at project level in line with local standards and processes
  • Ensure Project Controls processes and procedures are accurate, that the project controls team are familiar with them and comply with their requirements
  • Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of all cost, planning and risk deliverables prior to issue to internal or external customer
  • Coordinate with client representatives, team members, contractors, subcontractors to consider all project control requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

  • Degree qualification in relevant subject.
or

  • HNC or equivalent with extensive project controls management experience
Knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Demonstrable balance of industrial and management experience at relevant level and position
  • Advanced level of expertise across all disciplines of project controls, typically gained by a significant number of years industry experience within Project Control, including some experience leading and managing others
  • Good understanding of Project Management principles and techniques
  • Excellent understanding of Project Control principles and techniques
  • Significant experience with EPC projects
  • Extensive experience and understanding of project execution tools, processes, and procedures
  • A thorough understanding of strategic change management, with the ability to translate this into appropriate goals, methodologies, and strategies for implementation
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to effectively manage within tight time frames, to prioritize, and delegate appropriately
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present, inform and persuade at all levels and externally
  • Excellent understanding of Cost Control, Estimating, Change Management and Planning
  • Able to foster development of a common vision and collaboration among team members and teams across geographical and cultural boundaries, promotes open expression of ideas, encourages, and empowers others to achieve
