Field Technician I - Construction Materials Testing

Professional Service Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) is looking for a Field CMT Technician to join our Building & Construction team in Pittsburgh, PA.

What you'll do:

• Perform a variety of tests on construction materials including asphalt, soil and concrete using materials-testing equipment
• Perform field compaction testing, monitor paving operations and batch plant inspections
• Read construction documents to determine project details and specifications
• Neatly and accurately complete all required paperwork, including daily reports, test reports and timesheets - in a timely manner
• Record and report test results after performing mathematical calculations, making graphical solutions and graphical representations
• Communicate orally and in writing with engineers and staff members, agency representatives, contractors and business and property owners
• Perform maintenance/cleaning of equipment and calibration and adjustments as need
• Adhere to construction site safety guidelines and promotes a safe working environment

What it takes to be successful in this role:

• H.S. Diploma or Equivalent, required
• No Experience Required - individuals with less experience are welcome to apply - we offer in-house training and opportunity for advancement commensurate with performance
  • Candidates with field and/or laboratory construction materials testing experience are encouraged to apply!
  • Candidates with an engineering background are preferred
• The following certifications are highly preferred , but not required:
  • ACI Concrete Grade I
  • Nuclear Gauge Safety
  • OSHA 10
  • NICET Level II or higher in Concrete, Soils, or Asphalt
  • ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector
• Must have Basic Math, Calculator, and Computer Skills
• Comfortable using MS Office applications (Word/Excel/Outlook)
• Must be punctual & reliable with good attention to detail
• Must be able to read and understand work plans
• Must be able to work off shifts and overtime
• Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record required

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound.
• Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
• Ability to climb occasionally
