Chevron is accepting online applications for the position Technical Safety Design Engineer.

Overview:
  • The Technical Safety Design Engineer will report to the Standard Facilities Design Lead and will be dealing with Engineering coordination for Technical Safety Engineering discipline of projects for new unconventional surface facilities and support for upgrades of existing facilities. The role covers conceptual design, up to review and endorsement the basic and detailed engineering from Engineering contractors.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
  • Technical Safety is an engineering specialty providing technical leadership and applying strong engineering knowledge/broad experience to recognize and identify hazards, assess risk, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • The discipline is accountable for applying engineering design principles to a managed level of risk for operating facilities and capital projects.
  • Practitioners are responsible for cross functional interface management and/or managing cross-discipline facilities engineers.

Experience and personal & Technical Skills:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of equipment failure modes and safeguards (engineered and administrative) to prevent ultimate consequences.
  • Coordinate the conduction of consequence modeling for fire, blast and toxic releases utilizing proprietary software.
  • Facilitate technical risk assessments utilizing appropriate methodologies (e.g., Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Quantitative Risk Assessments, etc.).
  • Act as facilitator on more complex Process Safety related incident investigations.
  • Approve design specifications and lead design or modification of complex Fire Protection systems.
  • Understanding of qualitative risk assessments, quantitative risk assessments, and/or other systems managing process hazards with ability to influence design and operations in all lifecycle phases.
  • Update of relevant industry codes and CES related to Technical Safety.
  • Coordinate and assess during the engineering phase the introduction of safeguards for reducing the risk level to acceptable.
  • Clear understanding of API Standards related with technical safety and process safety: API 14C, API 14J, API 521, API 520, API 754, API 751, API 752, API 12J
  • Experience on defining safety and process safety safeguards during O&G surface processing facilities design.
  • Sponsor for inherent safer design from early phases, managing the balance cost risk.
  • Awareness of industry codes and company standards and specifications related to the design, fabrication, operation, inspection, and testing of equipment.
  • Establish the design criteria and performance standards for engineered safeguards related to applicable high consequence scenarios
  • Process Risk Engineering includes explosion, fire and toxic release modeling, event tree and fault tree analysis, building siting, quantitative risk analysis.
  • Fire Protection Engineering includes passive and active fire protections system designs, gas detection, plot plan designs (layout, spacing, drainage), engineering designs to mitigate spread of fire.
  • Process Safety Engineering includes qualitative risk assessments (PHA), technical safety reviews (functional reviews, design assurance, technical readiness reviews), operations support, and technical auditing.

Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in Process, Mechanical, Instrument, or Process Safety Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience in Technical Safety Engineering for O&G Upstream projects.
  • Fluent with Technical Safety design
  • Fluent with Inherent safe design.
  • Fluent in Process Safety Management
  • English speaking and writing skills.
  • Leadership skills demonstrated by leading roles with multidisciplinary teams.

Work Location.
  • Position will be based in Buenos Aires.
  • Should be able to frequent travel to field in El Trapial (Neuquen) and cover field activities including site inspections, operational procedures, construction review, PSSR, commissioning, and start up.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Desirable certifications on Process Safety Management and/or safety into plant design
  • Desirable certifications on HAZOP's Facilitation
  • Desirable experience of 10 years and exposition leading Technical Safety discipline with engineering contractors or O&G Operators.
