The Power Fundamentals Team is part of Shell VP Strategic Insights and Scenarios. The role of the Team is to provide a long-term view of the fundamentals of power markets in order to guide commercial and strategic decisions in Shell. The team is contributing to the growth of the power business in Shell, which is expected to become more important as the company decarbonizes.

Lead Power Market Analyst will actively lead quantitative analysis and modelling tasks in order to provide advice and insights to business opportunities and Strategy developmen t:

  • Lead power market analysis activities, in collaboration with Shell internal teams or external consultants
  • Lead the development of in-house modelling capabilities, for business and/or strategic analyses
  • Quantify and communicate long-term power scenarios in collaboration with the larger S hell Scenarios Team
  • Provide specific advice and insights to senior stakeholders and project development teams on the economic value of power assets
  • Liaise and communicate with various teams and stakeholders from Finance, Trading, Project Development, Valuation, Strategy, etc.
Power Market Analyst will focus on analysis and support of business opportunities and Strategy development :

  • Contribute to power market analysis activities, in collaboration with Shell internal teams or external consultants , under the coordination of a lead analyst,
  • Contribute to the development of in-house modelling capabilities, for business and/or strategic analyses
  • Support the quantification and communicat ion of long-term power scenarios in collaboration with business analysis and scenario teams
  • Provide specific support to project development teams on economic value of renewable energy
What we need from you

We are keen to hear from candidates with the following:

  • Proven track record in the field of power analysis, energy economics, either in a utility, energy company or consultancy
  • Knowledge/experience in systems analysis (e.g., long-term techno-economic assessment, optimization, modelling)
  • Experience in power market analysis, particularly on development of scenarios and/or dispatch analysis
  • Extensive e xperience with PLEXOS or similar power market modelling software
  • Good understanding of the commercial and technical attributes of generation and storage technologies (experience in project development is a plus)
  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills, good communicator, good listener, ability to present complex results to different audiences , as well as understanding the needs from different stakeholders and translate them into analytical work
  • Self-starter, independent and proactive with a desire to challenge status quo and retain independence of thought whilst keeping in mind deliverables and timeline
  • Effectively working across multiple time zones and projects under compressed timelines
  • Network in academic energy modelling community would be an advantage
