About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a PLANNER / PERMITTER (14 month FTC) to join our Living Places business unit to work in HAYWARDS HEATH. You will be working on a GBP12m project to install 30km of fibre optic cable from Brighton to Crawley.

Role Purpose:

  • To monitor the delivery of design and construction of works, schemes and projects covering an activity or type of work, through Programme tools including Asta Powerproject


What you'll be doing

As a PLANNER / PERMITTER, you will have the following accountabilities:

  • Ensure the delivery of design work and projects meet customer requirements and contract turnover budgets at the required cost, time and profit. Ensure NRSWA permits and TTROs are managed correctly. All programmes are updated using Asta Powerproject
  • Ensure that processes and plans are followed to ensure that all service agreements with the client and key performance indicators are fully achieved. Ensure projects are closed out correctly
  • Monitor the distribution of resource, labour and work across the contract or a part of the contract such that the total workload is achieved to budget and timescales
  • Use of Asta Power project and other relevant programming tools
  • Monitor costs and budgets for works such that all works are completed to schedule and budget. Able to forecast forward cashflow for current and subsequent year
  • Build and manage positive relations such that all problems and issues are identified, discussed and resolved promptly


Who we're looking for

You will have the following experience and qualities:

  • Operational experience (ie site engineer/site agent) together with previous significant experience of planning services in small to medium sized projects within the construction and engineering industry
  • Proficiency in the use of planning techniques and the required planning toolsets
  • An understanding of various methods of planning, programming and progress monitoring
  • An understanding of risk and opportunity management with particular reference to planning programming
  • An understanding of the events that initiate, and of the methods used to demonstrate, delay or change entitlement
  • An understanding of various methods of planning, programming and progress monitoring
  • An understanding of the events that initiate, and of the methods used to demonstrate, compensation event entitlement
  • An understanding of the construction market, methods of construction, plant, equipment and labour requirements
  • Relevant CSCS Card
