The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor to join the Amey commercial team supporting our Contract with Defence Infrastructure Organisation, undertaking maintenance activities and managing construction works across MoD sites within Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The role can be based either in our Rosyth or Glasgow offices, which will be subject to discussion. You should ideally hold a degree in Quantity Surveying and have an interest in working towards attaining a professional qualification. The role will require good numerical and IT skills, particular knowledge of Excel and CAFM systems would be helpful.

Experience of working with public sector customers preferred.



Commercial Responsibilities

  • Provide cost advice and support to core and additional services areas of delivery
  • Act as commercial focal point for our core suppliers who between them carry out planned and reactive maintenance tasks across the MoD Estate.
  • Manage core supplier monthly applications and reconcile their accounts on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Check monthly applications from specialist suppliers to ensure works are complete and amounts claimed are in line with their individual agreements
  • Management and resolution of queries submitted by supply chain regarding pricing
  • Ensure contract processes and procedures are adhered to at all times, advising and supporting as required
  • Manage supplier payments in line with contractual and company policy
  • Preparation and issuing of tender documents for construction works
  • Evaluation of tenders received through preparation of tender reports
  • Commercial management of projects on site including change management in accordance with NEC3 term Service Contract ensuring timescales are met by all relevant stakeholders
  • Agree final accounts with suppliers and with our customer for projects
  • Attend meetings, provide reports and liaise with all stakeholders on commercial matters
  • Assist Commercial & Risk Manager in preparing dispute avoidance strategy and any dispute resolution


Technical Responsibilities

  • Ensure Security and Fraud prevention systems and processes are adhered to at all times
  • Comply with business policy and procedures, supporting continual improvement
  • Support Service Delivery and Additional Services to ensure commercial processes and procedures are followed
  • Prepare tender documents for additional work projects and evaluate tenders when received
  • Commercially manage construction projects on site, in line with NEC 3 subcontracts
  • Comply with business policy and procedures, supporting continual improvement
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, sustainability, quality and other statutory requirements
  • Support Health and Safety best practice and safety excellence

People Responsibilities

  • Liaise closely with finance and commercial admin teams to build effective relationships
  • Support the teams by communicating effectively, providing commercial guidance to stakeholders, instil confidence in others to make their own decisions. Provide advice and guidance to staff in the preparation and presentation of works proposals, reviews and updates
  • Obtain commitment from others by persuading, convincing and negotiation. Manage stakeholders utilising experience to negotiate in line with business goal requirements
  • Support operational teams with guidance on NEC3 and contract particulars
  • Assist Commercial Managers with dispute avoidance and any dispute resolution
  • Comply with the organisation's Equality and Diversity policy


Salary

This is a band C role and salary is £35,000
