Job Title:      DesignSpecialist - Mechanical

Level:            3/4

Position Description: Provide mechanicalsystems analysis and input to perform technical reviews, mitigate potentialdesign risk, identify and solve construction challenges, and generateoptimization opportunities for pursuit and execution of design-build and design-bid-buildsystems projects as related to mechanical work.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:             

  • Perform technical reviews related to mechanical systems of projects to assess constructability, examine design details, perform quantity takeoffs, and recommend construction sequencing and logistics.
  • Evaluate energy model work performed by others for compliance and accuracy.
  • Evaluate LEED compliance for mechanical systems.
  • Perform life cycle cost analysis for mechanical systems.
  • Review and evaluate project specific designs, program intent, contractual obligations, division of responsibilities, and deliverables.
  • Review and assess project documentation such as drawings, basis of design documents, specifications, reports, and shop drawings as related to mechanical analysis.
  • Review mechanical documents for compliance with local / national code requirements.
  • Propose potential solutions to the design/construction team for design optimization, challenges, and constructability improvements.
  • Provide review and guidance for project non-conformances and operations issues.
  • Establish constructive and effective relationships with internal/external project team members, mechanical and plumbing subcontractors, engineer of record and clients to facilitate understanding and influence design and project development.
  • Partners with linked design disciplines, e.g. geotechnical, structural, code-compliance, building envelope and façade,
  • Architectural, MEPS, vertical transportation, acoustics, and fire to improve the coordination of design concepts.
  • May perform other duties as necessary or assigned

  • Qualifications: B.S. Engineeringwith a minimum of four years of industry experience as a Mechanical Engineer oran equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience; must be licensedas a Profession Engineer (Mechanical). Other industry certifications and/or accreditations (i.e.LEED AP, DBIA, CEM, etc.) are desirable. Must have the ability to thinkand write in a highly structured manner while also having the requiredcreativity to develop specialized solutions and anticipating potentialchallenges and opportunities.  Enjoyworking in an interdisciplinary team environment.  Must have design experience on a diversearray of projects through all phases of design and construction, with a focuson all Mechanical Systems elements. Experience with peer reviews and/or duediligence studies. Projects will be located throughout the U.S andapproximately 25% travel is expected. Experience with U.S. building designcodes and material specific standards. Experience with using design softwarefor design analysis, general collaboration software (i.e. Bluebeam Studio).  Operation of 3D and BIM software (e.g. Navisworks, AutoCAD, Revit,Rhino, SketchUp) would be a plus. Able to effectively and clearlycommunicate in a professional environmental via verbal and written means.Knowledge of Mechanical Systems products and costs. Continued development ofexpertise and awareness of innovations in the industry.
