Louis Berger Services is currently looking for qualified candidates to fill a Power Plant Manager position in the Middle East (Kuwait/Qatar/Iraq) to support the US Army at various sites.
o Serve as the Power Plant Manager for the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) services of prime power plant and client interface;
o Report to the Site Manager all special occurrences such as emergency outages and corrective actions taken to maintain service.
o Control and distribute electrical power through the power plant and primary distribution system, and operate the central switchboard to actuate remotely controlled circuit breakers, transformers, and switches in order to regulate and maintain proper voltage on the distribution lines;
o Closely monitor plant parameters of various feeders.
o Observe operation of relays on feeders and remote operation of numerous substations, detect indications of deteriorating conditions, and assure that equipment is operating within safe limits;
o Utilize judgment in interpreting guidelines such as load shedding priority schedule, operating criteria of equipment, schematics, and wiring diagrams;
o When malfunctions occur, determine and take actions to isolate and bypass the fault in order to maintain service or take actions to shed low priority loads when full service cannot be maintained. Inform high voltage electricians of the location of failure, cause, repairs needed, and assure that circuits are open and tagged before work is started;
o Plan operating programs, develop standard schedules for operating and maintenance activities, and make periodic inspections of the power plant and camp facilities to insure smooth functioning;
o Monitors the distribution of electric power to various distribution points;
o Operates switchboard controls to adjust controlled circuit breakers, transformers, and switches to regulate and maintain proper voltage on the distribution lines and at the power generation plant;
o Bring Generators online, parallel generators, and bring generators offline.
o Report abnormal operating conditions and reroute power through alternate feeders to user areas in case of emergency cutouts or extensive scheduled repair;
o Notifies repair crews of the location of failure and assure that circuits are open and tagged before work is started;
o Keeps an hourly log of meter readings and records shutdowns, connection and disconnection of circuits, and similar occurrences;
o Maintain close relationships with Military prime power group to ensure all their requirements are fully met in accordance with the contractual requirements;
o Represent LB Services during weekly conferences calls, negotiations, other meetings in the field and be able to speak authoritatively while recognizing the limitations of your own professional knowledge and credentials;
o Maintain constant awareness of available resources including: personnel, space, equipment, and funding;
o Plan and coordinate with the Site Manager the storage, transport and procurement of equipment and supplies required for execution at the site;
o Take direct charge of working operations of the power plant in special situations such as major equipment breakdowns, operating emergencies, or during installation of new equipment systems. Report findings to the Site Manager;
o Abide by and adhere to all requirements in General Order #1 in conformity with US military standards and practices;
o Follow all Berger standard policies and practices;
o Other duties as determined.
o Experience in medium to large scale O&M prime power diesel gensets (50-60 Liter engines);
o Experienced in managing a technical staff, inspectors and support personnel;
o Experienced working in international work environments with expatriate or US military;
o Proactive nature and strong interpersonal skills in collaborating, communicating and working with (1) Other senior managers and staff (to include Home Office management team), (2) Local and International subcontractors; (3) Army Corps of Engineers military representatives; and (4) Local officials as required.
o Experience in providing prime power O&M Services to clients;
o Good clear communication skills
Years of experience: 3-5 years as a Power Generation Lead or Supervisor
Level of English required:
- Duties will involve work in the outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions including frequent dust storms, and high temperatures up to 130F degrees in the summer months.
- Must be able to work overhead with arms raised for extended periods.
- Scheduled work hours up to 72 hours per week.
