Project: Building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low-carbon electricity for around six million homes. The £19bn project is due to start generating electricity in 2026 and is currently the largest construction project in Europe.
Marking a significant milestone in the revitalisation of our nuclear power industry, this project will make a major contribution to the UK’s move to reduce carbon emissions. The electricity generated by its two reactors will offset 9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year over its 60-year lifespan.
Working within the pre-construction planning team on the nuclear new build project, developing both site-wide and internal building logistics and enabling strategies and plans to support the construction activities.
A holistic approach is required to carefully manage the interdependencies that exist between adjacent and connected buildings, where there are shared accesses, and where changes of accesses occur over time.
Your responsibilities will include:
Developing phased logistics plans but not limited to people movement, material movement, the introduction of abnormal loads and others.
Providing temporary utility routing schematic for detailed design.
Coordinating requirements for logistics plan content with the construction team, project managers and contractors.
Communicating the plans and strategies clearly to the relevant service contractors for them to complete detailed design and implementation.
Providing support to construction and site operations to ensure planning supports the principal contractor duties and obligations, including coordination of works, emergency arrangements, including fire planning.
Working with project controls, provide and maintain site-wide consolidated people and freight forecasts to aid future site planning, based on multiple contractor forecasts and estimated information and data.
You have experience in major construction projects. You have experience in planning/delivering temporary infrastructure and enabling construction logistics. You are proficient in the use of IT - MS Office, CAD types programs (i.e. Naviswork, Synchro) and P6 program management. You are a good communicator with the ability to convey a message of implementing changes and gain support across a wide range of stakeholders. You will have experience in the construction or consultancy industry within the nuclear sector and be hungry to grow your career and enjoy the opportunities Mace has to offer.
