About the job:
Kent is looking for a Principal Civil Structural Engineer to be in the greater Chicago, IL area.

You will provide direction and coordination of civil structural design in Oil & Gas, Refining, and other industrial projects.

The ideal candidate will be P.E. licensed. Skills and Responsibilities:
  • Structural and foundation design and analysis of medium to large size engineering projects (greenfield and brownfield).
  • Subject matter expert engineering consultant to review design packages by engineering contractors on the client's behalf, to ensure design is compliant with the project basis of design, applicable codes and standards, and company specifications.
  • Civil/Structural discipline lead. Manage the preparation of accurate and complete designs and calculations as required to meet project requirements. Able and willing to step in and perform analysis and calculations if needed to support the team.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and assist projects to ensure effective quality product.
  • Conduct field investigations and site walk down; produce field reports and scopes of work for further investigation or retrofit/repairs if needed.
  • Keep up to date on new engineering processes, techniques, and standards and ensure that effective methods and design/engineering techniques are used.
  • Develop and recommend improvements in engineering and design standards to lower costs and improve work quality and facilitate maintenance.
  • Resolve project issues, problems and respond to contractor RFIs.
  • Define and review scopes of work, prepare engineering estimates at both proposal and design level and schedule for civil/structural engineering portion of work in a project.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:
  • BSCE degree, higher preferred.
  • Over 10 years of hands-on civil/structural experience in petrochemical industry is required.
  • P.E. license is required or can be obtained within 6 months.
  • Five (5) to Eight (8) years of experience as a lead engineer in mid to large size projects is desired.
  • Design and construction knowledge required.
  • Knowledge of civil/structural layout and design complying with industry standards required.
  • Experienced with commonly used civil/structural engineering standards and codes including but not limited to IBC, PIP, ACI, AISC, TMS and ASCE codes as well as commonly used civil/structural engineering software.
  • Seismic design and analysis experience.
  • General understanding of fire and blast loading and PFP.
  • Experienced contributing civil/structural engineering content to a single or multi-discipline basis of design.

Communication:
  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Behavior/ Core Competencies:
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word).
  • Working knowledge of Staad Pro and Staad Foundation, RISA 3D suite.
  • AutoCAD 2D/3D, NavisWorks .
  • Provide technical guidance to co-workers.
  • Contribute to a team environment by accomplishing related results in a cooperative and supportive manner.
  • Work autonomously without direct supervision.
